I would give the greatest sunset in the world for one sight of New York’s skyline. – Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead

It was so much fun to bring Hawaii to a New York rooftop for Nancy’s surprise 40th birthday party. The event was a success with perfect weather for the intimate gathering of Nancy’s family and friends. Ink48, the boutique hotel on 11th Avenue, proved to be an idyllic spot with its stunning city views.

In addition to good food, company, and Hawaiian music, the party will stand out in my mind because of the song requests made by Nancy’s husband and master surprise party planner, Walter. I was asked to play ukulele renditions of The White Stripes’ We’re Going to Be Friends, The Cure’s Just Like Heaven, and Mike Post’s theme song to Magnum PI. What I previously thought were songs not suited to a solo ukulele ended up being a whole lot of fun to arrange and play. It was also cool because there may or may not have been people from my favorite late-night talk showin attendance.

Happy 40th birthday to Nancy!

Here are a couple of photos that I snapped with my cell phone.
