Frederick H. L. Fung

August 5, 1936 – September 13, 2024

Frederick H.L. Fung, 88, of Blue Bell, PA, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on September, 13, 2024. Fred was the loving husband of Carolyn Scheib Fung for 30 years before her passing in 2021. He now joins her in peace and rest.

Fred was born on August 5, 1936, in Hong Kong to Reginald P.W. and Doris Fung. At an early age, he moved with his family to the United States, and spent most of his youth in Colorado Springs, CO. He graduated from the Fountain Valley School, where he played on the baseball and tennis teams, and participated in the Glee Club and Gun Club. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and went on to earn his MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

He married his first wife Miriam, with whom he had 5 children, and who predeceased him in 1972. Fred spent much of his career at Harleysville Insurance Company and retired from his position of Senior Vice President and Treasurer at the time of his marriage to Carolyn in 1991.

Fred and Carolyn traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada, as well as visiting Europe and China. They spent every winter as “snowbirds” at their home in Sarasota, FL. Fred was an accomplished golfer, even playing in the USGA Senior Amateur Championship in 1999. He was a highly successful blackjack player, and enjoyed restoring antique sports cars and collecting antique firearms.

Fred was deeply loved and is fondly remembered by his five children: Karen (Stephen) Dante, Sandra (Brian) Douglas, Stephanie (Kevin) Klesser, Linda Fung, and Frederick (Bressia) Fung; 8 grandchildren; sister Pauline Wang; his second wife Jean Strybos Fung; 3 stepchildren; 2 stepgrandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Carolyn Scheib Fung; his first wife, Miriam Lauh Fung; his brother Christopher Fung; and his stepson, Roy Rhubright III.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Fred at 12 noon on Saturday, September 21 in the Normandy Farms Estates Auditorium in Bluebell, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Staff Appreciation Fund at Normandy Farms Estates.
